It obliges oil companies to continuously reduce their CO\u2082 emissions. If they fail to do so, they will have to purchase additional emissions &#8211; from operators of public charging infrastructure and owners of electric vehicles, among others.  <\/p><p data-start=\"807\" data-end=\"1081\">The GHG quota replaces previous biofuel-related regulations and has also been used for electromobility since 2022. With this system, the legislator is following the principle:<br data-start=\"980\" data-end=\"983\">Those who cause emissions must pay. While other sectors have made progress in recent years, CO\u2082 emissions in the transport sector have remained largely unchanged. The GHG quota is intended to change this &#8211; through three overarching approaches:  <\/p><ol data-start=\"1435\" data-end=\"1589\"><li data-start=\"1435\" data-end=\"1461\"><p data-start=\"1438\" data-end=\"1461\"><strong data-start=\"1438\" data-end=\"1459\">&#8211; Avoid traffic<\/strong><\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1462\" data-end=\"1523\"><p data-start=\"1465\" data-end=\"1523\"><strong data-start=\"1465\" data-end=\"1521\">&#8211; Shifting traffic to lower-emission modes of transport<\/strong><\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1524\" data-end=\"1589\"><p data-start=\"1527\" data-end=\"1589\"><strong data-start=\"1527\" data-end=\"1589\">&#8211; Promoting the switch to alternative, climate-friendly drives<\/strong><\/p><\/li><\/ol><p data-start=\"1591\" data-end=\"1823\">Electromobility plays a decisive role here. It enables emission-free driving, especially if the electricity used comes from renewable sources. The GHG quota creates an additional financial incentive for this.  <\/p><h4 data-start=\"1830\" data-end=\"1874\"><strong>How does the GHG quota work in practice?<\/strong><\/h4><p data-start=\"1876\" data-end=\"1900\">Put simply:<\/p><ol data-start=\"1902\" data-end=\"2316\"><li data-start=\"1902\" data-end=\"1964\"><p data-start=\"1905\" data-end=\"1964\">1. mineral oil companies must reduce their CO\u2082 emissions.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1965\" data-end=\"2042\"><p data-start=\"1968\" data-end=\"2042\">2. they can purchase additional emission volumes if they do not fulfill their quota.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"2043\" data-end=\"2171\"><p data-start=\"2046\" data-end=\"2171\">3. these emission volumes can be <strong data-start=\"2111\" data-end=\"2154\">provided by<\/strong> <strong data-start=\"2075\" data-end=\"2106\">electric vehicle owners<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"2111\" data-end=\"2154\">operators of public charging points<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"2172\" data-end=\"2316\"><p data-start=\"2175\" data-end=\"2316\">4 Emissions are monitored by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.umweltbundesamt.de\/themen\/verkehr\/kraftstoffe-antriebe\/vollzug-38-bimschv-anrechnung-von-strom-fuer\"><strong data-start=\"2206\" data-end=\"2231\">Federal Environment Agency (UBA)<\/strong><\/a> and then sold in bundles to companies subject to quotas.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"2172\" data-end=\"2316\"><p data-start=\"2175\" data-end=\"2316\"> <\/p><\/li><\/ol><p data-start=\"2318\" data-end=\"2443\">The amount paid out <strong data-start=\"2342\" data-end=\"2359\">depends on the market<\/strong> and can fluctuate annually. For this reason, no fixed premium amounts are stated here. <\/p><p data-start=\"2445\" data-end=\"2639\"><strong>Important<\/strong>: If the quotas are not actively applied for and sold, the state can sell them to the oil industry itself. It is therefore worth using the quota via a service provider. <\/p><h4 data-start=\"2646\" data-end=\"2697\"><strong>How do charging infrastructure operators benefit?<\/strong><\/h4><p data-start=\"2699\" data-end=\"2924\">Since January 1, 2022, <strong data-start=\"2730\" data-end=\"2778\">operators of publicly accessible charging points<\/strong> have been able to claim GHG quotas. As they provide emission-free energy through charging processes, they can <a href=\"https:\/\/reev.com\/en\/reev-ghg-quotas\/\">claim credit for<\/a> these CO\u2082 savings. <\/p><p data-start=\"2926\" data-end=\"2951\">What does that mean in concrete terms?<\/p><ul data-start=\"2953\" data-end=\"3238\"><li data-start=\"2953\" data-end=\"3047\"><p data-start=\"2955\" data-end=\"3047\">&#8211; Operators can generate <strong data-start=\"2972\" data-end=\"3035\">additional ongoing income per kilowatt hour charged<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"3048\" data-end=\"3163\"><p data-start=\"3050\" data-end=\"3163\">&#8211; Trading usually takes place via <strong data-start=\"3087\" data-end=\"3118\">certified quota traders<\/strong> or <strong data-start=\"3124\" data-end=\"3151\">eMobility service providers<\/strong> such as reev.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"3164\" data-end=\"3238\"><p data-start=\"3166\" data-end=\"3238\">&#8211; This <strong data-start=\"3183\" data-end=\"3219\">does not<\/strong> result in <strong data-start=\"3183\" data-end=\"3219\">any additional administrative work<\/strong> for the operators.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"3240\" data-end=\"3457\">While private owners of electric vehicles generally receive a flat-rate premium, the remuneration for charging infrastructure is based on the actual amount of energy charged and recorded in accordance with calibration law.<\/p><h4 data-start=\"3464\" data-end=\"3529\"><strong>What do operators need to consider in order to be able to use GHG quotas?<\/strong><\/h4><p data-start=\"3531\" data-end=\"3615\">The charging infrastructure must be in place for the amount of energy charged to be counted:<\/p><p data-start=\"3617\" data-end=\"3833\">&#8211; be <strong data-start=\"3620\" data-end=\"3645\">publicly accessible<\/strong> (at least ad hoc charging without registration)<br data-start=\"3695\" data-end=\"3698\">&#8211;<strong data-start=\"3701\" data-end=\"3743\"> measure and bill in compliance with calibration law<\/strong><br data-start=\"3743\" data-end=\"3746\">&#8211; be registered with the <strong data-start=\"3757\" data-end=\"3778\">Federal Network Agency<\/strong><br data-start=\"3795\" data-end=\"3798\">&#8211; be located <strong data-start=\"3806\" data-end=\"3824\">in Germany<\/strong> <\/p><p data-start=\"3835\" data-end=\"4034\">Tip: Check whether certain subsidy programs exclude the use of a public charging function. If you are unsure, the charging infrastructure should be evaluated together with the service provider. <\/p><h4 data-start=\"4041\" data-end=\"4069\"><strong>Use GHG quota with reev<\/strong><\/h4><p data-start=\"4071\" data-end=\"4309\">reev supports operators in using GHG quotas <strong data-start=\"4116\" data-end=\"4145\">simply and automatically<\/strong>.
