The aim is to accelerate the expansion of charging infrastructure in the building sector and ensure that electromobility is considered from the outset in new buildings and major renovations. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"727\" data-end=\"1112\">The GEIG thus makes an important contribution to the <strong data-start=\"778\" data-end=\"821\">German government&#8217;s climate protection program<\/strong> and complements the European requirements of the <strong data-start=\"864\" data-end=\"933\"><a class=\"decorated-link cursor-pointer\" href=\"https:\/\/reev.com\/en\/what-is-afir\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"866\" data-end=\"931\">AFIR Regulation<\/a><\/strong> (Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation). Together, the two regulations form the legal framework for a nationwide, user-friendly charging infrastructure in Europe. <\/p>\n<h4 data-start=\"1119\" data-end=\"1154\"><strong>What does the GEIG actually regulate?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"1156\" data-end=\"1459\">The GEIG obliges owners and developers to prepare the technical infrastructure for charging points in new buildings and major renovations &#8211; for example with empty conduits, cables or the installation of charging options. This means that charging stations can be retrofitted at a later date with little effort. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1461\" data-end=\"1521\">A distinction is made between <strong data-start=\"1489\" data-end=\"1520\">residential and non-residential buildings<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1523\" data-end=\"1978\">\n<li data-start=\"1523\" data-end=\"1721\">\n<p data-start=\"1525\" data-end=\"1721\">&#8211; <strong data-start=\"1525\" data-end=\"1541\"> Residential buildings:<\/strong><br data-start=\"1541\" data-end=\"1544\">For new buildings with more than five parking spaces, each parking space must be equipped with empty conduits for electrical cables. The same requirement applies to major renovations. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1723\" data-end=\"1978\">\n<p data-start=\"1725\" data-end=\"1978\">&#8211; <strong data-start=\"1725\" data-end=\"1746\"> Non-residential buildings:<\/strong><br data-start=\"1746\" data-end=\"1749\">For new buildings with more than six parking spaces, at least every fifth parking space must be pre-equipped and <strong data-start=\"1853\" data-end=\"1893\">at least one charging point installed<\/strong>. Comparable requirements also apply to extensive renovations. &nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">These regulations create long-term planning security and ensure that electromobility can be implemented quickly in the building sector.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li><li data-start=\"1723\" data-end=\"1978\"><p data-start=\"1725\" data-end=\"1978\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><br><\/span><\/p><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 data-start=\"2131\" data-end=\"2204\"><strong>New requirements from 2025: charging point obligation for existing buildings<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"2206\" data-end=\"2487\">From <strong data-start=\"2209\" data-end=\"2227\">January 1, 2025<\/strong>, a new requirement will apply:<br data-start=\"2253\" data-end=\"2256\"><strong data-start=\"2256\" data-end=\"2304\">Existing buildings with more than 20 parking spaces<\/strong> must provide <strong data-start=\"2312\" data-end=\"2342\">at least one charging point<\/strong>. This ends the previous transitional period &#8211; there is now a need for action, especially for <strong data-start=\"2420\" data-end=\"2454\">commercially used properties<\/strong>. &nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Owners who violate the charging point obligation face fines of up to <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\" data-start=\"2582\" data-end=\"2597\">10,000 euros<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">  count. At the same time, new opportunities are opening up: investing in charging infrastructure now increases the value of your property and positions you for the future. <\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2769\" data-end=\"2880\">You can find out more about this in our article on the <a class=\"decorated-link cursor-pointer\" href=\"https:\/\/reev.com\/en\/charging-point-obligation-2025\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"2815\" data-end=\"2879\">charging point obligation 2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4 data-start=\"2887\" data-end=\"2925\"><strong>Neighborhood approach &amp; exceptions<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"2927\" data-end=\"3218\">The GEIG makes it possible to plan and implement charging infrastructure <strong data-start=\"2969\" data-end=\"2982\">together<\/strong>. Using the so-called <strong data-start=\"3032\" data-end=\"3051\">neighborhood approach<\/strong>, several owners of neighboring buildings can agree to provide the charging infrastructure in a bundled manner. This reduces costs and facilitates implementation.  <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3220\" data-end=\"3246\">Excluded from the GEIG are:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3247\" data-end=\"3490\">\n<li data-start=\"3247\" data-end=\"3335\">\n<p data-start=\"3249\" data-end=\"3335\">&#8211; small and medium-sized enterprises that largely use their non-residential buildings themselves,<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3336\" data-end=\"3490\">\n<p data-start=\"3338\" data-end=\"3490\">&#8211; as well as projects where the costs for the expansion of the charging and cable infrastructure would amount to more than <strong data-start=\"3435\" data-end=\"3471\">7% of the total renovation costs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 data-start=\"3497\" data-end=\"3552\"><strong>Future-oriented charging infrastructure with reev<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"3554\" data-end=\"3763\">The GEIG clearly shows that charging infrastructure is no longer an option &#8211; it is part of modern building planning.
