The number of electric vehicles is constantly increasing – and with it the demands on electricity grids and charging infrastructure.
Intelligent interaction between charging and load management is required to ensure that charging points can be operated efficiently, safely and cost-effectively. These systems ensure that available energy is optimally distributed, load peaks are avoided and the operation of the charging infrastructure remains stable at all times.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

What is load management?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Load management<\/strong> (or energy management) controls how much electricity is available for all consumers at a location at the same time – especially for charging points. The aim is to prevent grid overloads, reduce costs and make optimum use of the available connected load.<\/p>\n

A distinction is made between two approaches:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Static Load Management<\/strong><\/h5>\n

With static load management, a fixed maximum power is defined that is distributed to all charging points. Example: If 100 kW total power is available and four vehicles are connected, each vehicle receives 25 kW. This approach is simple, but not very flexible, as changes in overall consumption (e.g. due to building loads) are not taken into account.<\/p>\n

Dynamic Load Management<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Dynamic load management is the intelligent further development. It continuously measures the actual energy consumption at the location – for example by lighting, machines or other consumers – and adjusts the available charging power in real time. If more electricity is required in the building, the system automatically reduces the charging power to avoid grid overloads. As soon as capacity is available again, it distributes the energy efficiently to the charging points.<\/p>\n

Advantage<\/strong>: Dynamic load management can reduce energy costs, optimize charging times and make better use of existing grid connections without expensive extensions.<\/p>\n

What is charge management?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

While load management regulates the distribution of electricity in the overall system, charging management<\/strong> refers to the organization of individual charging points and user groups. It controls who is allowed to charge, when and how fast.<\/p>\n
