actually mean?<\/strong><\/h4><p data-start=\"802\" data-end=\"1143\">The charging mode describes the <strong data-start=\"831\" data-end=\"859\">technical way<\/strong> in which electricity is transmitted between the power source (e.g. socket or charging station) and the electric vehicle. It determines how communication between the vehicle and the charging point works, whether safety mechanisms are integrated and the charging power. <span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">In Europe, the <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\" data-start=\"1174\" data-end=\"1189\">IEC 61851-1<\/strong> <span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">standard <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"> defines four different charging modes &#8211; from simple socket solutions to intelligent fast charging systems.<\/span> <\/p><h4 data-start=\"1316\" data-end=\"1372\"><strong data-start=\"1323\" data-end=\"1372\">Charging mode 1 &#8211; Charging at the household socket<\/strong><\/h4><p data-start=\"1374\" data-end=\"1645\">In charging mode 1, the electric car is charged directly via a normal household (Schuko) or CEE socket. This variant is suitable at most for test purposes or infrequent emergency charging, as there is no communication between the vehicle and the power source. <\/p><ul data-start=\"1647\" data-end=\"1820\"><li data-start=\"1647\" data-end=\"1694\"><p data-start=\"1649\" data-end=\"1694\">&#8211; <strong data-start=\"1649\" data-end=\"1666\"> Charging power:<\/strong> up to 3.7 kW (alternating current)<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1695\" data-end=\"1733\"><p data-start=\"1697\" data-end=\"1733\"><strong data-start=\"1697\" data-end=\"1714\">&#8211; Plug types:<\/strong> Type 1 or type 2<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1734\" data-end=\"1820\"><p data-start=\"1736\" data-end=\"1820\"><strong>Disadvantage<\/strong>: no interlock, no protection against overload or cable erosion. <span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Due to the lack of safety mechanisms, mode 1 is <\/span>no longer recommended <span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">today <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">.<\/span><\/p><\/li><\/ul><h4 data-start=\"1928\" data-end=\"1991\"><strong data-start=\"1935\" data-end=\"1991\">Charging mode 2 &#8211; Charging with integrated protection in the cable<\/strong><\/h4><p data-start=\"1993\" data-end=\"2278\">In charging mode 2, the vehicle is still connected to a normal socket, but the charging cable contains an <strong data-start=\"2115\" data-end=\"2146\">In-Cable Control Box (ICCB)<\/strong> &#8211; a small control unit that monitors the flow of electricity and enables communication between the vehicle and the power source.<\/p><ul data-start=\"2280\" data-end=\"2449\"><li data-start=\"2280\" data-end=\"2345\"><p data-start=\"2282\" data-end=\"2345\">&#8211; <strong data-start=\"2282\" data-end=\"2299\"> Charging power:<\/strong> up to 22 kW (alternating current, depending on the socket)<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"2346\" data-end=\"2410\"><p data-start=\"2348\" data-end=\"2410\">&#8211; <strong data-start=\"2348\" data-end=\"2363\"> Safety:<\/strong> integrated overload and residual current protection<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"2411\" data-end=\"2449\"><p data-start=\"2413\" data-end=\"2449\"><strong data-start=\"2413\" data-end=\"2430\">&#8211; Plug types:<\/strong> Type 1 or type 2<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"2451\" data-end=\"2607\">This solution offers <strong data-start=\"2471\" data-end=\"2490\">more security<\/strong> than mode 1, but remains an interim solution &#8211; for example for mobile charging or at home without a permanently installed wallbox.<\/p><h4 data-start=\"2614\" data-end=\"2658\"><strong data-start=\"2620\" data-end=\"2658\">Charging mode 3 &#8211; Today&#8217;s standard<\/strong><\/h4><p data-start=\"2660\" data-end=\"2898\"><strong data-start=\"2664\" data-end=\"2679\">Charging mode 3<\/strong> is the established standard in Europe and the recommended variant for regular charging. Here, the connection is made exclusively via <strong data-start=\"2820\" data-end=\"2852\">charging stations or wallboxes<\/strong> that are permanently connected to the power grid. <\/p><ul data-start=\"2900\" data-end=\"3157\"><li data-start=\"2900\" data-end=\"2946\"><p data-start=\"2902\" data-end=\"2946\">&#8211; <strong data-start=\"2902\" data-end=\"2919\"> Charging capacity:<\/strong> up to 44 kW (alternating current)<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"2947\" data-end=\"3012\"><p data-start=\"2949\" data-end=\"3012\">&#8211; <strong data-start=\"2949\" data-end=\"2967\"> Communication:<\/strong> between vehicle, charging station and backend<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"3013\" data-end=\"3079\"><p data-start=\"3015\" data-end=\"3079\"><strong data-start=\"3015\" data-end=\"3032\">&#8211; Plug types:<\/strong> Type 1 or type 2 (standard in Europe: type 2)<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"3080\" data-end=\"3157\"><p data-start=\"3082\" data-end=\"3157\">&#8211; <strong data-start=\"3082\" data-end=\"3097\"> Safety:<\/strong> automatic plug lock during the charging process<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"3159\" data-end=\"3330\">Thanks to integrated communication, the system recognizes the vehicle&#8217;s energy requirements and automatically adjusts the power flow &#8211; safely, efficiently and in compliance with calibration law.<\/p><h4 data-start=\"3337\" data-end=\"3391\"><strong data-start=\"3345\" data-end=\"3391\">Charging mode 4 &#8211; Fast charging with direct current<\/strong><\/h4><p data-start=\"3393\" data-end=\"3562\"><strong data-start=\"3397\" data-end=\"3412\">Charging mode 4<\/strong> is the fast charging mode. Here, <strong data-start=\"3451\" data-end=\"3471\">direct current (DC)<\/strong> is fed directly into the vehicle battery, which means that charging times are significantly shorter. <\/p><ul data-start=\"3564\" data-end=\"3819\"><li data-start=\"3564\" data-end=\"3632\"><p data-start=\"3566\" data-end=\"3632\">&#8211; <strong data-start=\"3566\" data-end=\"3583\"> Charging power:<\/strong> up to over 350 kW (depending on vehicle and station)<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"3633\" data-end=\"3697\"><p data-start=\"3635\" data-end=\"3697\"><strong data-start=\"3635\" data-end=\"3652\">&#8211; Plug types:<\/strong> CCS (Combo 2), CHAdeMO, Tesla Supercharger<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"3698\" data-end=\"3756\"><p data-start=\"3700\" data-end=\"3756\">&#8211; <strong data-start=\"3700\" data-end=\"3717\"> Locking:<\/strong> automatic during the charging process<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"3757\" data-end=\"3819\"><p data-start=\"3759\" data-end=\"3819\">&#8211; <strong data-start=\"3759\" data-end=\"3777\"> Communication:<\/strong> digital between vehicle and charging point<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"3821\" data-end=\"3940\">These fast charging methods are particularly relevant on long distances, highways or for fleets with high throughput.<\/p><h4 data-start=\"3947\" data-end=\"4020\"><strong data-start=\"3954\" data-end=\"4020\">The future of charging: intelligent systems and energy management<\/strong><\/h4><p data-start=\"4022\" data-end=\"4284\">Charging power alone is only one part of the equation.
