Case Study – Amba Operations

Amba Operations GmbH – Cost Efficiency through the reev Electricity Tariff

For a large-scale project in Nuremberg, Amba Operations was looking for an economical and future-proof solution to reduce energy costs and avoid expensive load peaks.

Economical. Sustainable. Future-ready.

Amba Operations GmbH is a full-service provider for charging infrastructure based in Munich. For the past six years, the company has been planning, installing and operating charging stations in semi-public environments – from small business sites to complex depot solutions. in the semi-public sector – from small company locations to complex depot solutions. With over 2,500 charging points under management, Amba is supporting the professionalization of electromobility and combines technical expertise with a clear commitment to sustainability

Challenge: rising energy costs and high administrative effort

As part of a client project in Nuremberg, Amba Operations faced the challenge of reducing operating costs for the charging infrastructure while making energy usage more efficient. Until then, electricity procurement was based on traditional fixed-price tariffs — resulting in high administrative workload and limited transparency.

A particular issue were the RLM-based demand charges: in larger installations, electrical power is continuously measured, and high load peaks directly lead to significantly higher costs. Amba was therefore looking for a solution that was economical, automated and fit for the future.

Solution: the reev Electricity Tariff – intelligently integrated into the reev Platform

For the project in Nuremberg, Amba Operations opted to implement the reev Electricity Tariff.
This dynamic tariff is based on quarter-hourly stock exchange electricity prices and is managed directly through the reev Platform.

Charging processes are automatically controlled via the integrated reev Energy Management System (EMS), which not only prevents costly load peaks but also adjusts the charging power to the current price situation.

The prerequisite for using the reev electricity tariff is a smart meter (iMSys or RLM meter) that allows quarter-hourly billing. This means that electricity can be used precisely when it is available, cheap and particularly green – in other words, at times when a high proportion of renewable energy is being fed into the grid.

This approach not only shifts energy consumption into economically favourable time windows, it also directly improves the CO₂ footprint of the companies whose charging points Amba operates.

Project Overview

Location: Nuremberg
System: 38 AC charging points
In operation since: August 2025
Total consumption: approx. 50,000 kWh p.a.
Savings: up to 30 % lower energy costs
Technology: recording power measurement (RLM), dynamic billing

Results: measurable cost benefits & higher operational efficiency

By combining the reev Electricity Tariff with the reev Platform, energy costs at the Nuremberg site were significantly reduced.
While traditional fixed-price tariffs allow little flexibility, the dynamic tariff takes advantage of price fluctuations — sustainably lowering procurement costs.

The outcome:
• Up to 30% lower energy costs
• Optimised load management through automated control
• No additional effort required for monitoring or intervention

For Amba Operations as the operator, this results in a noticeable increase in efficiency in daily operations.

Sustainability: 100% renewable energy & eligibility for funding

The reev Electricity Tariff is based entirely on 100% renewable energy generated in Germany.
This not only strengthens the sustainability profile of the projects, but also meets a key requirement for eligibility in many public funding programmes for charging infrastructure.

Amba Operations and its clients therefore benefit twice: from lower energy costs and a measurably improved environmental balance.

Outlook: potential for further projects

Following the positive results in Nuremberg, Amba Operations is evaluating the use of the reev Electricity Tariff in additional projects — wherever the technical conditions are met.
In the future, PV systems and battery storage solutions are also planned to further integrate on-site energy generation with consumption.

“The reev Electricity Tariff is a real game changer for us. We reduce energy costs, cut administrative effort and make efficiency measurable – all integrated within one system.”
