Shaping a sustainable future: a local partnership for smart charging infrastructure

How the Munich-based industrial company iwis successfully implements its eMobility strategy with reev and on-site PV integration.

About iwis

As one of the world’s leading manufacturers of precision chains and chain drive systems, iwis looks back on a history spanning more than 100 years.

Founded in Munich in 1916, iwis has built a strong international reputation through innovation, quality and sustainability. Today, the family-owned company employs around 1,900 people and consistently invests in sustainable technologies – both across its product portfolio and within its own operations.

An additional driver was the potential to reduce energy costs by using self-generated electricity instead of public charging options – particularly as there are very limited public charging facilities in the surrounding area.

Motivation for the switch to electromobility

For iwis, moving towards electric mobility was a logical step within its overall sustainability strategy. Increasing support for hybrid company cars for employees, along with the introduction of fully electric pool vehicles for travel between the Munich and Landsberg am Lech sites, made the development of an in-house charging infrastructure essential.

A local partnership with a long-term perspective

As a Munich-based company, iwis values short distances, direct communication and strong regional partnerships. For its charging infrastructure project, iwis therefore relied on trusted partners from the local ecosystem: The Mobility House as a long-standing technology partner – and, through this connection, reev as a flexible Munich-based software provider.

reev’s cloud-based solution stood out not only for its intuitive user interface, but also for the ability to operate the system independently. Close coordination within the regional partner network played a key role in ensuring the smooth execution of the project.

Efficient implementation despite challenges

The implementation of the charging infrastructure began in early 2023 and was completed after around one year. Specific challenges, such as the required civil engineering work for cable routing across employee car parks and ensuring a stable Wi-Fi connection for the charging points, were identified early on and successfully addressed.

One highlight of the implementation was the integration of private charging for employees – an additional benefit that further increased acceptance and satisfaction among the workforce. In addition, charging in the underground car park has been available since August 2025, with eight charging spaces, expanding the offering and further improving convenience for users.

Everyday use of the charging infrastructure

Today, the charging points are available to multiple user groups:

  • • Drivers of permanently assigned company cars
  • • Drivers of pool vehicles
  • • Employees with private electric vehicles
  • • Customers and visitors

The project at a glance

• Location: 4
• Charging points: 64
• In operation since: August 2025
• Charging sessions via reev: approx. 2,700 to date
User groups: Pool vehicles, company vehicles, employees with private EVs, customers and visitors

reev in 3 words

How would you describe reev in three words?
• Clear and intuitive user interface
• Easy employee setup
• Strong regional partners

Positive impact on brand and employees

Feedback from employees has been consistently positive: the charging infrastructure is seen as an important step towards greater sustainability and a more modern corporate environment. At iwis, electric mobility has long been more than just a trend – it is an integral part of the company’s responsibility towards the environment and society.

A clear advantage!

Pool vehicles can be conveniently charged overnight, ensuring full operational readiness each day. The need to search for public charging stations is eliminated – a clear efficiency gain in everyday operations. The option to use reserved charging bays is also particularly valued.

“reev gives us the flexibility we need for our growth – intuitive, scalable and locally based.”

Sustainability and PV integration

Sustainability is deeply embedded in iwis’ DNA. The company follows a comprehensive transformation strategy across its German sites and regularly prepares global Corporate Carbon Footprints (2023 & 2024).

Photovoltaic systems are already being installed to cover part of the company’s energy demand independently. The use of green electricity is also planned – a further step towards making the charging infrastructure even more sustainable in the future.

Vision: In combination with the cloud-based reev Platform and the gradual expansion of its PV systems, iwis aims to seamlessly integrate charging infrastructure and energy supply.

Outlook: further expansion planned

Looking ahead, iwis plans to further expand its charging infrastructure – particularly as part of the construction of a new site with an underground car park. The option of opening the charging infrastructure for paid public charging and eRoaming is also currently being evaluated.

Conclusion: electric mobility implemented locally, sustainably and intelligently

Through its partnership with reev, iwis has established a future-proof, flexible and sustainable charging infrastructure. The combination of strong local partnerships, PV integration and user-friendly software makes this project a true showcase for successful electric mobility in corporate environments.
