From the first prototype developed with a partner company to the team that is now reimagining semi-public charging infrastructure, this is the story of reev founder Eduard Schlutius, in his own words.
Eduard had never planned to start a company. At age 22, he was fascinated by the potential of renewable energy, not just the generation itself, but the question of how electricity could be managed intelligently and what that meant for the power grid. Renewables are fundamentally changing the grid. But the real benefit only comes when electricity is managed more intelligently. That’s exactly where his question began: “What if we could change that?” And from that question, reev was born.
Even while I was in college, I was fascinated by the transformation taking place in the energy sector and the question of how to make electrical devices easy enough to manage so that they work in harmony with the energy system: an electric car, a stationary battery, a charging station, a PV system.
It was clear to me that the rise of electric cars and especially of charging infrastructure in businesses would only succeed if we made this complex topic simple enough for every company to implement.
Only then will it be suitable for mass adoption. That is precisely what we continue to see as our mission to this day.
We built our first prototypes and very quickly gained paying customers. That told us two things: There is demand, and people are willing to pay.
There was hardly anything comparable out there; we had nothing to model ourselves after. So it was a matter of building, testing, and proving over and over again. We learned more from that process than from any business plan.
It all started small: pure curiosity, a few people, and the belief that energy could work differently.
reev started as a SaaS company offering software for charging stations, as this is where energy and mobility converge. Charging stations served as the gateway into the building, with a focus on semi-public areas, where vehicles park for longer periods and where charging can be integrated most intelligently into the energy system.
Today, reev is not only the largest management platform for charging points in semi-public areas, but also the fastest-growing provider of energy management solutions for businesses in Germany.
What drives me is making a real impact. We’re not working on a theoretical problem, we’re in the thick of it: every day, we deal with massive amounts of data that give us a direct, visible picture of how people and businesses use energy.
The impact we can make goes far beyond our product. Every time a politician somewhere in the world acts crazy, I think to myself: Now more than ever. Becoming independent, making energy affordable in Europe, and stopping climate change with good technology.And seeing how our team challenges ideas, works hard, and celebrates successes together, that’s what makes me proud.
There’s never just one big moment. It’s the many small ones that spur you on: when the team goes the extra mile and solves a problem that seemed impossible just a few weeks earlier. Energy and mobility are two of the greatest challenges of our time, and we’re right in the middle of this tension.
We have to question everything and reinvent a lot of things. That’s often exhausting. But having a team with whom exactly that is possible is incredibly rewarding to me.
